Chaplain report:

  • First, Chaplain asked for prayers for himself. With the transfer of Father Michael, nearly all of the ministerial workload will fall upon Fr. Pat. Prayers also for Father Fernando, the new Parochial Vicar, who will minister primarily to the Hispanic community.
  • The council was thanked for all we've done this year and specifically for instituting the St. Philomena Fund though hope we don't need to use it. We were pro-active in seeding it and other parish ministries are contributing as well.
  • The new bishop of the Diocese of raleigh, Luis Raphael Zarama, will be installed on August 29th.
  • The Holy Name of Jesus cathedral will be dedicated on July 26th. The Mass for the Cape fear Deanery at the cathedral will be on October 21st.
  •  Closed by asking for our prayers for vocations which aren't keeping up with the retirements and deaths.

Approval of minutes:

The minutes from the June meeting are posted on the council website. Motion made to approve, seconded and was passed.

Retention/Membership report: No  report.

Grand Knight report:

  • Expand the breakfast menu and try a no charge approach asking for donations. The menu is being expanded by adding take-out sandwiches.
  • First degree at August meeting.
  • Board Installation will be after 11:30 Mass with lunch. [Confirmed date is 8/13.]
  • Corn hole tournament at the Ogden tap Room will be in October.
  • Have not decided on Columbus Day event.
  • Garage Sale this fall. No date yet. The proceeds are targeted to the St. Philomena Fund.
  • Requested credit card for larger expenses. The board thought a debit card may provide the checks-and-balances. A process will be defined and communicated to the council.
  • August poker is in the Gym.
  • Lastly ask for any questions on budget and will vote on it in August.
