Business Meeting Minutes August 16, 2017of Knights of Columbus 12017

The Business Meeting was preceded by a First Degree ceremony. Three candidates were admitted to our ouder: Ron Girardi, Curt Robert and ???.

Grand Knight Godshall called the meeting to order. The Warden reported all had membership card and rosary, the opening prayer was led by the Warden, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

The traveling Gavel was presented to Grand Knight Godshall by the Grand Knight of the St. Terese Council, Mike Kane.

Chaplain report: No report. 

Approval of minutes:

The minutes from the July meeting are posted on the council website. Motion made to approve, seconded and was passed.

Retention/Membership report: No  report.

Grand Knight report:

  • Brother Agnelli was admitted to a memtal health unit assisted by three brother knights. 
  • To expand our marketing ability, a Facebook page is to be started by our DGK Chris Smith. (Note that there is a Marketing committee consisting of P. O'Connell, J. Curley and R. Guarini.)
  • Garage Sale this fall, probably November. The proceeds are targeted to the St. Philomena Fund.
  • Corn hole tournament at the Ogden tap Room will be in October.
  • Our membership goal for this FY is 13. 

Bills and Communications: None to report.

Treasurer’s report: Given by the Financial Secretary.

Financial Secretary’s report: Gave report. 

Trustees report:

  • The semi-annual audit has been completed. 

Director’s reports:

Church (Decker) -

  • A Priests Appreciation Mass is scheduled for Sunday, 10/29, at 9:30.
  • Dynamic Catholic book – Into the Deep by Dan Burke is available.
  • Bible Studies and Faith Enrichment – Many opportunities from now through the school year to join.
  • Friday Adoration – Knights are encouraged to attend adoration on Fridays; in particular, during the time allotted to teh Knights - 2-3pm. M. Saldana is the coordinator.

Family (Peters, S) -

  • Knight of the Month was a four-way tie for the Knights who each worked eight of the ten LAMB collections: Bolger, Kranich, Kline, and Merck.

Culture of Life (report given by Decker) - 

  • NFL Football Pool booklets are available. Sell ten; get one free. The first games ore September 11.

Council -

  • Lee Wagner reported that 33 people came to play at teh August Texas Hold 'Em.  This was held in the gym as parish functions have precedence. A call was made for younger members to join in the play. 
  • George Schadt put the word out that volunteers are needed for the parish breakfasts. Show up around 7:30 to set up and/or stay to help clean up afterwards. A new "free" option will be tried as will "To Go" items.  

LAMB (Niggel) -

  • We're at 80% of our goal for the year and that was done on the backs of 31 Knights. Two more events are planned: Candy sales in October and Knight before Christmas in December. 

New Business:

  • A "council" debit card is being investigated primarily for those times when a large outlay needs to be made which would be a burden for the brother Knight to carry.
  • Brother Steve ??? mentioned that brother Knight John Lewis is entering the seminary and in need of money for cassocks and other needs. As John would be one of our RSVP recipients, we moved up his disbursement to help defray his immediate expenses.  
  • The FY 2017-18 budget was approved.. Borothers Merck and Smith provided the motion and seconding. 

Report of the Fourth Degree:

Exemplification will be held November 18 in Jacksonville, NC at Infant of Prague parish. See R. Daniels for a package.

District Deputy Report: Having addressed the newly degreed Knights at the First Degree, DD Weisgerber declined to talk. 

Insurance Representative: Same as DD. 

Good of the Order:

Prayers were offered for fellow Knights, relatives and friends. In particular the following names were mentioned:

  • Leann Shelton
  • Steve Agnelli
  • Hannah Sher (friend of Leann Shelton)

Also, Lee Wagner reported good news about his wife, Kathy, being cancer free at last testing.
