Business Meeting Minutes September 20, 2017 of Knights of Columbus 12017

Grand Knight Godshall called the meeting to order. The Warden reported all had membership card and rosary, the opening prayer was led by the Warden, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Chaplain report: No report. 

Approval of minutes:

The minutes from the August meeting are posted on the council website. Motion made to approve, seconded and was passed.

Retention/Membership report: No  report.

Grand Knight report:

  • The council is now "on Facebook" thanks to brother Girardi.Contact ron if you need help promoting or to offer help.
  • The parish mission on September 29 will feature Catholic apologist Hector Molina. The council will provide a dinner of hamburgers and hot dogs preceding the event. Volunteers needed. 
  • The garage sale is in the planning stages for November. This will provide funds for the St. Philomena Fund. 
  • The 2nd annual Cornhole Tournament is on October 7 at Ogden Tap Room. This is a LAMB event and will benefit the equestrian therapy program. 
  • The weekend of Spetember 24 is our membership drive. We need speakers for each Mass to give a brief reason, in their own words, as to why join the Knights. 

Bills and Communications: None to report.

Treasurer’s report: Gave report.

Financial Secretary’s report: Gave report. Also mentioned that brother McConnell donated the food for the September Texas Hold'Em. 

Trustees report: No report. 

Director’s reports:

Church (Decker) -

  • A Priests Appreciation Mass is scheduled for Sunday, 10/29, at 9:30.

Family (Peters, S) -

  • Knight of the Month is Steven Fabian for his active involvement with the high school youth ministry. He's also recently engaged!
  • Brother Decker just celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary so the deckers are the Family of the Month.

Culture of Life (report given by Decker) - 

  • NFL Football Pool booklets are still available though the first games have passed. 

Council -

  • John Bolger talked briefly about the veterans in need and how we can help. Look for an announcement prior to our next meeting for items we can bring to help.
  • George Schadt said the "eat free" breakfast was a surprise to him in that we brought in more money through donations!  We'll continue the program.  The next breakfast (for the parish) will be October 1. Volunteers are needed. Thanks to brother Wool for the idea dor the "free" breakfast and for the donations baskets strategically placed. 
  • Texas Hold'Em:
    • Because of other parish uses, we needed to rent tables for poker. By our flexibilityand by setting up the parish hall for a large post-funeral reception, we gained additional goodwill with the parish administration.
    • The Texas Hole'Em will now be sponsored with the next sponsors:
      • September - Texas Wild Wings
      • October - Greenline Pizza
      • November - our council - Italian
  • Cornhole Tournament reported by brother Scarborough.  As reported by the Grand Knight, it will be held October 7 beginning at noon at the Ogden Tap Room. There will be a silent auction by the Columbiettes and a 50/50 by the Knights. Thiss will fund the Coastal Therapeutic Riding Program.

LAMB (Niggel) -

  • We will hold a "candy sale" after Masses on the weekend of October 7-8.  We'll collect for LAMB as well as sell Halloween candy -- Tootsie-Rolls.
  • Volunteers are needed for Special Olympics activities over the next month:
    • 10/8 - Legion Stadium
    • 10/25 - Legion Stadium
    • 10/29 - Halloween dance at Haliburton Park
  • A final LAMB collection may be held at the Knights Before Christmas Mass.

Report of the Fourth Degree:

  • Exemplification will be held November 18 in Jacksonville, NC at Infant of Prague parish. See R. Daniels for a package.
  • The Assembly will send a letter to the Supreme Council expressing the displeasure with Supreme's decision of new regalia. 

District Deputy Report:

  • 2nd degree on October 30 at St. stanislaus at noon.
  • 3rd degree on October 22 at Southport
  • 1st degree on October 23 at St. Mary
  • 4th degree on November 18 at jacksonville.

Insurance Representative: Not in attendance. 

Good of the Order:

Prayers were offered for fellow Knights, relatives and friends. In particular the following names were mentioned:

  • Miguel Saldana for the loss of his daughter, Laura West. 
  • Kenny Merck
