Build Day

SHP will be building beds at our Independence Mall location. We need lots of volunteers to come work with our core team as we work to build beds for local children.  This build day is in memory of Charlene Waggett, spouse of Davie Waggett who passed unexpectedly in November. Dan Toulan graciously stepped up to sponsor this build day. Charlene loved SHP and supported us in many ways. She was tireless in gathering bedding for us!  Please plan to come participate and honor Charlene's memory if you are able. Bring friends! 

We ask volunteers to consider bringing at least one piece of bedding as a donation toward our cause. This is NOT a requirement, donations just help stretch our dollars a little further.
Polar Plunge 2/21
3:00pm

It's time for "freezin for a reason." The 2026 Special Olympics Polar Plunge is scheduled for February 21st at 3pm near the Kure Beach pier.  As is our custom, we've booked a hotel room for both pre-gaming and recovery activities. For those of you brave enough, there are two actions:

  • Send Tim Niggel an email (at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), so he can get an accurate headcount for food and drink, and to let you know the wherabouts of the hotel room,
  • Register for the plunge using the link at the left and at the final checkout step, enter the code "KOC26" to waive the entry fee. (We're a major sponsor of the event).

Wilmington Marathon 2/28
5:30-8:00am		 For the Wilmington Marathon, we are Aid Station #2 across from St. Mark. Arrive by 5:30am. If you have previously volunteered, you should have received an invite for this year. For those of you who are unable to register yourselves, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Include an email address and your tee shirt size. We need 20 volunteers and this is a fundraiser. Password when signing up to volunteer is water.
Golf Outing
