Family
Families are the foundation of society and are at the core of the Knights of Columbus. With this in mind, councils regularly sponsor activities that allow families to spend time together in volunteer activities, faith initiatives and social events. In addition, the Knights of Columbus regularly recognizes the importance of the family and outstanding families. Also, since its beginnings, the Order has always stood ready to help protect the widows and orphans of its members.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace
SHP’s motto is NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!®
Today there are 400,000 children who now have a safe, comfortable place to sleep.
And it all started with one bed.
In 2012, Sleep in Heavenly Peace built and delivered its very first bed to a child in need. There was no national network, no hundreds of chapters, and no roadmap for what would come next. But there was a child who needed a bed, and a group of people willing to help.
Since that first delivery in 2012, thousands of volunteers across the country have built, assembled, and delivered beds to children who otherwise might be sleeping on floors, couches, or makeshift spaces.
What started with a handful of volunteers has grown into a nationwide network of more than 400 chapters.
More than 100,000 children are currently waiting for a bed through SHP chapters nationwide.
In the three years since its founding, SHP-Wilmington has built over 1,500 beds. The need remains, and so does the commitment to meet it.
Build-a-Bed
The Build-a-Bed program encourages councils to build bed for children who would otherwise sleep on the floor or in other sub-optimal conditions. The Knights of Columbus and Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) are working together to ensure every kid has a bed of their own.
Wilmington has an existing SHP chapter so our council primarily provides manpower as volunteers. The SHP chapter provides the build site, logistics, tools, training, and materials. SHP will also identify the children in need of beds and coordinate the bed delivery. Volunteers show up, sign in, receive safety gear and are given a short training by SHP team members. They then volunteer at various stations. There are stations for sawing, sanding, drilling, assembling, staining and branding the wood. What starts as a pile of raw lumber from the hardware store becomes ready-to-deliver bunks for kids in need.
Build-a-Bed events occur frequently throught the year and volunteering is encouraged.
The Holy Rosary will be led before the 9:30 Sunday Mass by the Family Director or another designated Knight on the 5th Sunday of each month. The recitation will begin at 8:55 in the Rosary Garden. Bring your rosary and family.
