Business Meeting Minutes 12-16-15

Business Meeting December 16, 2015 Knights of Columbus 12017

The Grand Knight, Ken Dieppa, called the meeting to order and received a report from the Warden that all present were in possession of their membership cards. A rosary check was made and a dollar donation solicited from those unable to show the rosary. The opening prayer was said and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

The Opening Ode was not sung due to the expected length of the meeting.

Chaplain Report:

  • The Chaplain was not in attendance but asked the Grand Knight to thank the council for their contributions to the parish.

Approval of Minutes:

  • The minutes from November's meeting were not available. The temporary Recorder from November, Steve Shelton, was not in attendance.

Admission Committee Report:

  • Membership director reported on Retention – Eleven brothers have been dropped from our rolls.
  • He also mentioned that we should reach out to all those interested in the Knights, as well as when a brother knight or family is in distress.

Balloting for Membership: None.

Grand Knight Report:

  • The Grand Knight reported on the “capital spend” in which the council purchased a display case for the gathering space, purchased the new “Our Lady of Victory” signage for the activity center, and purchased 87 hymnals.
  • The Knight of the Month is George Schadt for his efforts on the pancake breakfasts among other help.
  • A fundraiser is being held by the Grand Knight – he has the Solidarity Cross, made of olive wood and sourced from KofC, available for $7 each.

Treasurer Report:

  • The Treasurer reported on the account balances. 

Bills and Communications:

  • None received. 

Financial Secretary Report: None.

Report of Service Program Committees:

  • Program Director Pahl had each service program director report on activities.
  • Church:
    • Jeff Godshall reported on the Christmas Caroling bus had 40+ knights and spouses aboard and visited five nursing homes. It was a wonderful experience bringing joy to those residents.  The grand Knight offered thanks to Tim Niggel and Jeff Godshall for organizing the event.
    • Following the caroling was the Christmas Party in the parish hall. Thanks to Tom Woodard and Tom Morris for the great job with the cooking.
    • A date for the Men's Retreat has yet to be set.
    • The IFF has many knights working on various committees.  The “Knights Tent” is in need of a committee head. Please consider joining a committee.
    • Vocations co-chair Decker reported on the Christmas cards and gifts sent to twenty-two seminarians. Some thank you cards are coming back already.
  • Council:
    • Steve Shelton is looking for a chairman and co-chair for the St. Patrick’s Day dinner.
    • The council will attempt to host at least on fish fry during Lent. A committee for this also is needed.
    • The Texas Hold’em games were to be fundraisers throughout the year. Unfortunately, none have been scheduled. Brothers Merck, Wagner and Godshall are to target a game on January 24.  
  • Community (No one to report)
  • Culture of Life:
    • Director Decker listed the next prayer vigil date as January 5, the feast of St. John Neumann.
    • The NFL Football Pool has continued to run well.  The Fourth Degree also started an NCAA College Football Playoff Pool with each council expected to sell twenty booklets.
  • Family: (No one to report)
  • Youth:
    • Director Abbe reported that Ed Basso did Christmas card sales at a number of Masses.
    • Youth Minister Quaranto passed on through Paul Abbe how thankful she is for our help with the Tree Lot.
    • The Free Throw Contest planning meeting will be on 1/9.

LAMB Report:

  • No report.

Trustees report:

  • No report.  

New Business:

  • No report.  

Fourth Degree Report:

  • There were three parades in December: Carolina Beach, Wilmington and Burgaw. The addition of a third parade diluted the number of participants in every parade.
  • An honor guard was provided for the opening of the Holy Door at Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary.

Insurance Agent Report:

  • Tim Niggel reported that Steve Shelton will be holding an Insurance Information Night on January 30.
