Business Meeting February 24, 2016 Knights of Columbus 12017

The Chancellor, Jeff Godshall, called the meeting to order and received a report from the Warden that all present were in possession of their membership cards.

The Opening Prayer was said and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Chaplain Report:

  • The Chaplain was not in attendance nor report submitted. 

Approval of Minutes:

  • The minutes from the January meeting are on the council website. One correction to a name was made and the minutes were approved as amended. The motin was made by  Tim Niggel and seconded by Farry. 

Admissions Committee Report:

  • Three visitors considering joining the brotherhood were Mike Straub, Jason Theobald and Dave (?). 
  • The date of the next recruiting drive has not been set. 
  • The next First Degree will be here on 4/27. 
  • For retention, keep brothers that can't make it to meetings up-to-date with what is going on in the council by a simple reach-out by phone. 

Grand Knight Report: 

  • Steve Shelton was named Knight of the Month for all his volunteerism.
  • New LAMB Director position remains unfilled. Tim Niggel described LAMB to the membership. 
  • The State raffle tickets are in and we have 600 assigned to the council. Tickets are $5 each and each knight should purchase five tickets. We get half of all monies collected. Tickets can either be picked up and paid for tonight or they will be mailed. The drawing will be on 5/21.  
  • It's time to start thinking about volunteering for a leadership position for the 2016-17 fraternal year.
  • Gary Wool, PGK of a council in Syracuse, NY is in attendance and will request transfer into the council. 

Treasurer Report:

  • The Treasurer was not in attendance so no report. 

Bills and Communications: 

  • A letter was recived acknowleging the council's donation to Wilmington Catholic Radio. 
  • A letter was received from Archbishop Timothy Broglio for the council's donation to the Military Archdiocese's military chaplain program.
  • A letter from Chaplain Patrick Keane thanking the council for the donation of missals and hymnals. 
  • A request from brother Jim Stock's daughter to help her father in/out of car/wheelchair at 5pm Mass. 

Financial Secretary Report:

  • The third and final billing notice for dues was sent today. 

Report of Service Program Committees:

  • Mark Pahl called on the committees to provide reports.
  • Church:
    • Director, Steve Peters mentioned the need for knights participation in the International Food Festival (IFF). Jeff Kranich reiterated the need to volunteer for any of the committees.
    • The Memorial mass is scheduled for 3/13 at 9:30. Knights and Columbiettes will assume all positions (lector, EMHC, usher, etc.).
    • The Lenten Mission will be four nights, Feb. 29 thru March 3. The mission will be preached by Richard Lane.
    • Mark Pahl reported on Vocations initiatives:
      • 18 of the 24 seminarians that we sent Christmas cards and gifts to have replied thanking us. 
      • The annual golf outing is on 5/7. at Echo Farms. this is the primary event to fund our support for four seminarians through the RSVP program.
  • Council:
    • There were 27 players for the first Texas Hold'em. Additional events are in planning.
  • Community:
    • George Schadt reported on the February parish breakfast. The March breakfast will be hosted by the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
  • Family:
    • Knights will handle two Fish Frys during Lent. The first, on 2/19. served 73 people. The next is on 2/26.
    • The St. Patrick's Dance is on 3/12. Volunteers needed from Knights and Columbiettees. Tickets can be purchased through our website with credit cards. 
    • Mark Pahl reported that the Golf Outing will be on May 7th at Echo Farms.
    • The Memorial Day "family" picnic will be on 5/29 from 2-10pm.
  • Youth:
    • No report.

LAMB Report:

  • Tim Niggel reported on the Polar Plunge.

Trustees Report:

  • No report. 

New Business:

  • No report.

Fourth Degree report:

  • No report. 

Insurance Agent report:

  • Marty Yakimovich, our agent, provided an update on significant and noteworthy changes to the insurance programs:
    • The annuity program pays 2.5% and can be started with as little as $100.  
    • Term insurance can be gotten up to age 85.
  • Marty told us that ten members of the Camp leJeune council have joined the seminary! 

Good of the Order:

  • Prayers were offered for our fellow Knights, relatives and friends.
