Chaplain Report:

  • Fr. Keane thanked us for changing our meeting to Wednesday because of his other parish commitments. Now it will be easier to attend.
  • He said the KofC has been the backbone of many parishes to which he's been assigned. It's more important now since we're in an escalating culture war - "Let's make no mistake about it." The Church needs our prayers and our faith witness. He reiterated the need to say the rosary recalling our receiving one when we received the First degree.
  • He asked that we be visible in the parish so we can attract other men to our fold.
  • Fr. Keane asked that all knights to sign up to have their family portraits done for the parish directory.
  • He also mentioned that the council should have a page in the book showing a collage of our activities. The pictures for this should be submitted to Kelly Vaughn soon.
  • The diocese will be holding the St. Andrew's Dinner on 10/9 between 5-8pm for all men interested in the priesthood. This dinner with the bishop will be held at St. Mark's. Fr. Keane asks knights to attend the holy hour from 7-8pm that day.

Approval of Minutes:

  • The minutes from July's meeting are on the council website; no corrections were offered so were approved without modification.

Admission Committee Report:

  • No membership applications have been received.
  • As to retention, Jeff Kranich wants to, at least quarterly, reach out to those not attending meetings to try to get them to return.

Balloting for Membership:

  • None as no applications to act upon.

Grand Knight Report:

  • The proposed budget was presented. Two suggestions were offered by Larry Lambe: to obtain two banners each (one for Keep Christ in Christmas, the other for Right to Life), and to donate money to the Rosary Maker ministry. The GK asked him to research the costs and report back.

Treasurer Report:

  • The Treasurer reported on the account balances.

Bills and Communications:

  • None received.

Financial Secretary Report:

  • The FS was excused so no report available.

Report of Service Program Committees:

  • The positions of Program Director, Council Director and Family Director are vacant and in need of volunteers.
  • Church:
    • Church director Peters was not at the meeting so reporting was done by Mark Pahl and Greg Decker.
    • Vocations/RSVP: Mark Pahl thanked Fr. Keane and Fr. Burbeck for their support of vocations and their willingness to be "prizes" at the golf outing.  The drawing to play golf with them raised $500 for RSVP.
    • Greg Decker proposed and will act as chairman for a "Fifth Sunday Rosary" program. Supreme suggests this program to all councils to implement on those months that have five Sundays. (In this Fraternal year those Sundays are 8/30, 11/29, 1/31 & 5/29.) The first will be at 3pm on 8/30; others will likely be before a Mass that Sunday.
  • Council:
    • Facilities Workday(s) - Greg Decker will be point-of-contact to assist the facilities staff in various activities throughout the year such as mulch spreading, pruning, weed patrol, etc.
  • Community:
    • Emergency Food Pantry - Pete Kotas reported on the new food pantry, the types of foods needed, and the clientele.
    • Parish breakfasts - George Schade asked for help with the first parish breakfast on the second Sunday in September; all others will be on the first Sunday.
  • Culture of Life:
    • Bishop Burbidge will host a Rosary for Life at noon on Thursday. Paul Abbe reported that it will be viewable live in the parish hall. All were invited to attend.
    • The prayer vigil dates for September are 9/8, 9/11 and 9/15.
    • The NFL Football Pool was again promoted. For every ten booklets sold, the seller gets one free. The first game is 9/14.
    • 40 Days for Life begins 9/23 and runs through 11/1. More information will be made available closer to the start.
  • Family: (No one to report)
  • Youth:
    • Paul Abbe proposed that the Council put on a Free Throw Championship and an Essay Contest. It was offered that Chris Smith could run the free throw contest.
