Business Meeting June 22, 2016 Knights of Columbus 12017

The Grand Knight, Ken Dieppa, called the meeting to order and received a report from the Warden that all present were in possession of their membership cards.

The Opening Prayer was said and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Chaplain Report:

  • Chaplain Keane invited the council to attend the Fortnight for Freedom Eucharistic Adoration beginning June 28 at 6:30pm and ending at Vespers June 29 at 6:30pm. Special graces are granted to those who attend.
  • The parish is planning to begin monthly 24 hour Adoration.  

Approval of Minutes:

  • The minutes from the May meeting are on the council website and approved (Smith/Kranich). The March minutes are not yet ready. 

Admissions Committee Report:

  • A Form 100 was received for Francis Keenan. The Membership chair will interview him. 

Grand Knight Report: 

  • The Grand Knight said his focus for the past Fraternal year was to build a relationship with the church, and hope that he accomplished that goal.
  • A check was presented to Chaplain Keane to complete the statue purchase.  The statue is of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Dedication of the statue is planned for October 2 after the 9:30 Mass. Brother Hill suggested that the knights learn and sing the hymn to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
  • A new cross for the salutation table was blessed by our chaplain. 
  • The knight of the Month was Kyle Mummert, the seminarian who spent the last nine months at St. Mark and a member of our council.
  • Seminarian Mummert was escorted from the room.  The Grand Knight said to the membership that the council wanted to give Seminarian Mummer a $1,000 gift as he leaves to attend St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. A preliminary collection was made during the past month and the hat was passed to make up the difference which did happen. Seminarian Mummert was returned to the room at which time he was awarded a $1,000 voucher. 
  • The slate of officers was presented (see below) with brother Larry Greer accepting the Recorder position.  The nominations were closed (Farry/Merck).

Treasurer Report:

  • The Treasurer was absent so no report.  

Bills and Communications: 

  • None. 

Financial Secretary Report:

  • The Financial Secretary provided his report. 

Report of Service Program Committees:

  • Church: No report. 
  • Council: 
    • FS Wagner reported that the recent Texas Hold'em poker night had 32 players. Food was excellent being prepared by Scarborough and Smith.
    • The Memorial Day family picnic at the Pahl's was very well attended. Over 85 adults and 40 children were on hand for a fantastic time. 
  • Community: No report.
  • Culture of Life:
    • Mentioned the Holy Hour that precedes our Business Meeting as a time for reflection and preparation for the work we as knights are called to do.
    • NFL football pool booklets were made available at the meeting.  
  • Family: No report. 
  • Youth: No report. 

LAMB Report:

  • Tim Niggel reported on ten fund drives at various Harris-Teeter stores from 6/4-8/6. VolunteerSpot.com is being used to handle volunteering easier. As of the meeting, three collections have been completed with good returns. 

Trustees Report:

  • The audit will be acheduled to be completed by the required date. 

New Business:

  • No report.

Fourth Degree Report:

  • The annual Passing of the Colors were held at both Catholic schools. The children really enjoy the ceremony. 
  • The 21 Day Flag Salute program is underway. The council has agreed to be responsible for the flag on June 24. 

District Deputy Report:

  • DD Frank Weisgerber said there will be two new grand knights in District 1. 
  • Reiterated the Second Degree at St. Therese on June 28.

Good of the Order:

  • Prayers were offered for our fellow Knights, relatives and friends.  In particular, the following names were mentioned:
    • Roy Parker
    • Jim Riesmeyer
    • Bob Heck
    • Daniel Agnelli.  His father, Steven Agnelli, updated us on Daniel's status thanking everyone for all that's been done. 
    • Steve Shelton - sinus surgery.
    • A brother knight in Charlotte mentioned by Farry. 
  • Bill Ebersbach of the Military Order of the Purple Heart was the guest speaker. He came to talk about a special program for veterans that suffer from severe PTSD. This program is Paws4Vets which trains and supplies assistance dogs to those in need.  Bill was accompanied by his assistance dog, Wetherly.  Also accompanying him was the head and assistant of Paws4People (the parent organization), and another veteran, Zack, and his dog.  The presentation was well received and discussions continued after the close of cusiness. The general concensus was that this was a worthy organization and should be supported by the council.
