·         Supreme Chaplain's Challenge for July 2023
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.” (Gospel for July 9, Mt 11:28-29)
Rest often seems to be in short supply in our busy modern world, for our culture finds it hard to slow down and be still. We can and should spend time in leisure to refresh our bodies and spirits, but we need to go even deeper and take time to find true rest. Let’s always keep in mind St. Augustine’s words: “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”
Challenge by Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William E. Lori: This month, I challenge you to turn to our Lord to find rest by spending at least one hour each week in Eucharistic adoration. Second, I challenge you to support the Faith in Action Holy Hour program.
Questions for Reflection: Do you turn to Christ to find rest amid your labor and burdens? Do you observe Sunday as a day of worship and rest? Do you regularly spend time in prayer, seeking that interior peace that Christ has promised us?

·         Football Pool $20 per book and if you buy/sell 10 you get one free.  The football pool, aside from supporting pregnancies, provide a great evangelization tool with your children, grandchildren, godchildren, nieces, nephews, 1st and 2nd cousins, by gifting to your relatives that in a fun way shows support for Life.  Especially with the turning over a Roe V Wade still in the news and actively talked about on college and high school campuses.  For these kids, many times the check just shows up in the mail for surprise beer and pizza money even though they are not following the 20 chances to win. You can get the books from Michael Breit (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

·        LifeLine Pregnancy Center was the first recipient of this year’s ASAP donation of $2,000 presented on July 6th, the feast of St. Maria Goretti, a young virgin and martyr whose life is an example of purity and mercy for all Christians.

This will be an Italian themed dinner.  We should plan for about 40-50 people.  We are asking Knights/Spouses to help with set up, cooking and clean-up.  We hope to get 5 or so main courses and the same number of desserts.  There is a big kitchen there with many large refrigerators, stoves and ovens with all the typical utensils. If you are willing to help in any of these areas email SK Sean your information (Name, what you want to help with).  Ashley House can usually get all the ingredients (pasta, meat, etc.) if needed.  We just need to get them the list early enough.   We usually talk with the vets and will have corn hole, bocce ball or a few other games that were a hit last time before eating.  Any additional questions contact Sean or Tim.

Grand Knight’s Report: GK Cary Newman

·         Brothers Brewery Night: Purpose- Fraternity especially getting to meet our new Knights.  6:30-8:30pm Monday, July 31, at Wrightsville Brewery- 6201 Oleander Dr, Wilmington, NC 28403. There is a minimum charge for the room of $300/hour.  Whatever food and drink we buy counts toward that charge.  So, if we have 25 brothers attend who spend $20 apiece, that accounts for $500 of the $600.  Hopefully, we will have more than 25!   The room maxes at 50 people so I would love to see us hit the MAX!  There is a heavy h'ordeuvre package of $17/person and beer runs about $5/beer so spending $20/person should be pretty easy.

·         In the future the Columbiettes will be meeting the same night as our Business Meeting with a social gathering after both meetings.

·         We will be receiving the Star Council award which focuses on Membership and Faith.  We may even have the opportunity to get the Double Star award for doubling our membership goal.

·         We watched the Video- The Dash about Dan Agnelli, a powerful video we all need to think about.  We only have so much time on this earth and need to be sure we let those we love know it and bring value with the lives we have.
