Grand Knight’s Report: GK Cary Newman

·         The formal presentation will be made in a few months, but announced that we have been recognized as a Double Star Council for our work in 22-23.

·         Our success in recruitment was essential to earning the Double Star. However, with that success comes the responsibility to help our new brothers get engaged in the activities of the council. To that end, the leadership of the council has initiated a Knights Mentoring Program. Through that program, Knights recruited in the past 24 months who have not yet become active in the work of the council will have a mentor who provides guidance and support as needed.

·         Brothers Brewery Night was held July 31. We had 35 brothers in attendance with the sole purpose of getting to know each other better while enjoying a couple of beers and some good food. This is a great opportunity for those new to the council and those who have been away for a while to get in touch and get to know your brothers. Will be holding a BBN every quarter.

·         Food at the Council meetings is a big topic of conversation. Everyone wants it and we know that with food comes conversation and fraternity. But, it is expensive. The food we bought two years ago before the pandemic cost us $60/meeting and now it is more like $160/meeting. We do not have the budget to support that. So, we would like to revert to a previous practice of having a Food Team with a Food Chairman. Each month the Food Team would come up with a plan to provide home cooked food (like Pasta or sandwiches or other) for the meeting. We will also enlist the Columbiettes to help since they will begin joining us for a social after the meeting. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer for this team and if you would be willing to be its leader. Brothers John Clyatt and Gerardo Andrade have stepped up as leaders. They will be challenged to provide food after our council meetings within our $60/meeting budget

·         Columbiettes/Knights council social will be renewed starting 9/26. The idea of having both meetings on the same night and finishing with a joint social was our practice prior to Covid. This is a great way for the Knights and Columbiettes to know each other better.

·         Our Worthy Recorder, Sean Murphy, has taken the initiative to convert our Fraternal Planner from a pen and paper exercise to a fully functional Excel spreadsheet. The 23-24 calendar is ready to be published and will go out to the full council in excel format within the next few days. Please review it carefully and let us know what you will volunteer to support. We tend to have the same 30 or 40 brothers doing most of the work and really want and need to see some fresh blood in the mix.

·         The GK is very excited that we have actually launched our Hispanic Caballeros de Colon initiative. We now have 9 Hispanic Knights with at least 3 more ready to be exemplified! Our first Spanish roundtable will be August 31. When you see notification of a Spanish exemplification, please do your best to attend. We truly want to support our Hispanic brothers in this growth of our council.
