Business Meeting Minutes October 17, 2018 Knights of Columbus 12017

Note: Due to Hurricane Florence the September meeting was cancelled.

Grand Knight Larry Greer called the meeting to order. The Warden reported all had membership card and rosary. The opening prayer was led by brother George Schadt and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

There were two visitors to our meeting which were both knights: Ryder Jackson from Birmingham, ALL and Bob Tredjak, GK of the council in Southport. He presented GK Greer with the Honorary Gavel.

Approval of minutes:

The minutes from the August meeting were posted on the council website. Motion made to approve, seconded and was passed.

Retention/Membership report: No report

Grand Knight report:

  • Poker was cancelled because of the Hurricane. Next poker to be held in January.

  • A recent church breakfast was a huge success, George Schadt was primary volunteer. Next Breakfast all funds will be donated to hurricane relief.  

  • Nov 10th will be the date for a Newcomers spaghetti dinner. Volunteers needed for set up and serving and breaking down.

  • November 23rd volunteers needed for Christmas tree unloading.

  • Christmas party at the City Club on December 7. $25 per person.

  • The GK thanked all who helped in hurricane relief efforts and reminded Brothers to report hours volunteered.

  • Jeff Godshall and Ken Dieppa were awarded with Past Grand Knight badges.

Treasurer’s report: Update on accounts provided by Treasurer

Financial Secretary’s report:  We have 220 members. Our quota is 15 new members and 6 new insurance members. State and Supreme per capitas were paid.

Directors' reports:

Life (Breit): Life community was pleased with Judge Cavanaugh’s appointment to Supreme Court.

Church (Saldana): Offered as Good of the Order. Participation at Adoration and Vespers was stressed. Those retired should be able to attend Adoration without difficulty. As for Vespers, we should attend on the Wednesday of our meetings, at least. 

Alex Hill asked the membership to entertain joining the Gregorian Chant program.

Family (S. Peters): A number of Knights were recognized for volunteering following Hurricane Florence. Some named were Mark Pahl, dave Corbett, Larry Greer, John Bolger, Miguel Saldana, Bobby Philips, Will Nelson, Greg Decker and,  of course, Rich Carbone. 

Community (no director): John Bolger presented information about helping Veterans and encouraged all to attend Veterans day parade Nov. 10 Downtown, and also to participate in the Nov. 7 golf Tournament at Compass Pointe with a 9am Shotgun start. Call Mike O’Day for more information 910-398-8635.

New Business: Nothing to report

Report of the Fourth Degree: The exemplification for November has been postponed. It may be held in the Spring but more likely next Fall. 

District Deputy Report: Announced the cancellation of this year's Polish Festival at St. Stan's. Also praised all who helped with hurricane relief.  

LAMB: The last fundraising for LAMB has been postponed due to the hurricane.
