Business Meeting March 19, 2015 Knights of Columbus 12017

The Grand Knight, James Laraia, called the meeting to order and received a report from the Warden that all present were in possession of their membership cards. The prayer was said and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

The minutes from February's meeting were on the council's website...no changes, so approved.

GK Report:

  • The council is now soliciting members that are seeking to become an officer for our next Fraternal Year which starts July 1. A nominating committee has been established. If interested in becoming an officer, contact one of the trustees.
  • Literature about the Squires (for boys 10 to 18) is available from the GK.
  • The Knight of the Month is a group of knights who work tirelessly as a team, specially on Sundays when meals need to be prepared and served. They are George Schadt, Andy Esposito, Jim Klein and John Bolger.
  • The Family of the Month is the extended family of Ron and Barb Probst and Jeff Werner. They're so active it's hard to list all their good works from the Thanksgiving dinner, the "chicken" supper, and Ron's co-chairing the LAMB Sprine Event.
  • Upcoming key dates are:

    • April 12 - Divine Mercy Sunday (with a special deanery ceremony at St. Stanislaus at 3pm)

Financial Secretary's Report:

  • State Council vacation raffle tickets have been sent out. Returns are requested by March 31.

Report of Service Program Committees:

  • Council: Americal Food Tent - Mark Pahl said one more knight was needed to help in the tent and a few for parking.
  • Vocations: Golf Status Report - Mark Pahl - On track.
  • Community: Bread of Life - Jim Edens  - Gave a brief presentation on the Gleaning ministry at St. Mark's which is part of Bread of Life which collects and distributes food to the needy.
  • Council: St. Patrick Dinner/Show - Steve Shelton - Recognized most, if not all, of the people involved with the dinner including:
    • G. Schadt in the kitchen
    • T. Niggel with logistics
    • G. Peters & M. Pahl on cleanup
    • T. Morris, J. Godshall, T. Woodard & S. Peters on refreshments 
    • K. Dieppa for ticket sales & clean-up
    • J. Hellman taking pictures & clean-up
    • Columbiettes were really helpful!
    • The "Imitations" were great and --- brought five tables with them! Acoustics were "fine", "great" and "no problems".

LAMB Report:

  • The LAMB Spring event will take place on Saturday, May 9. The GK listed many of the volunteer positions needing to be filled. Most are of 2-3 hour duration.

New Business:

  • None.

Fourth Degree:

  • Faithful Navigator Philips reviewed the District Master's position on wearing lapel pins while in regalia. Also, this was included in the meeting handout. 

District Deputy's Report:

  • DD Weisgerber mentioned the 3rd degree in Havelock the upcoming weekend. 

Good of the Order:

  • Theresa Bolger (J. Bolger's sister)
  • Donald Todd (G. Schadt's stepson)
  • Field Agent M. Yakimovich:
    • Talked about what goes into becoming a Star Council stressing brotherhood. 
    • Presented an update on the KofC insurance "business". This was the 2nd year in a row that the program was noted as being the Most Ethical company. Said the KofC requires all agents to take Code of Ethics courses. Uses the example of a field agent being involved helping the family with forms, etc. right after a death. 
    • Reiterated the need for having a will and everything documented.
    • Also, suggested being aware that some insurance coverage reduces (sometimes substantially) at age 70. Don't get caught unawares.
    • Gave kudos to C. Stinson for his Catholics in Wilmington website.
