K of C Business Meeting September 18, 2014 Knights of Columbus 12017                  

The Grand Knight, James Laraia, called the meeting to order and received a report from the Warden that all present were in possession of their membership cards. The prayer was said and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Tom Rice, the GK from St Theresa's, presented the Traveling Gavel to Jim Laraia the Grand Knight of our council. Jim noted that

Now that the previous meeting's minutes are published on the council website shortly after a meeting, the reading of the minutes will be dispensed with; however, the Grand Knight will ask for corrections and/or changes at the meeting. For the Junel meeting minutes no corrections or changes were offered so the minutes were approved as recorded on the website.

 Greg Decker led the Knights in the Prayer for Vocations.

 Grand Knight's Report:

Jim stated that the Squires were being formed for boys from ages 10 to 17. This group is on the assembly level. We need the names of anyone interested in becoming a squire. Please contact Jim with the names ASAP.

Welcome to the 4 new members that received their 1st degree tonight. Ron Probst is our Program Director and will help you get involved in our charitable endeavors.

The upcoming events that need volunteers are the September Parish Breakfast. We need a cooking team, servers, and a clean up team. please speak with James Laraia to volunteer your services.

The Columbus Day Dinner & Show needs tickets sold and volunteers to set up and clean up. We need a Silent Auction Team. Speak with Pete Kotas about helping with this event.

The Knights Before Christmas breakfast will be held after each morning mass. Set up and clean up teams are needed. Speak with Steve Peters or the Grand Knight.

The Culture of Life activities include the Life Chain, Prayer Vigils, pro-life talk, March for Life. Speak with Greg Decker about these activities.

Special Programs include Faith Formation Kick-off Meal, Parish Breakfasts, a special Thanksgiving Meal, unloading the Christmas Tree truck, selling Christmas Cards, a Caroling event to Nursing homes, Christmas Parades, Wine and cheese Silent Auction. Youth programs include Soccer, Basketball Free Throws, and Teaching, support to DRE & St. Mark Youth Minister.

The St Patrick Dinner and Dance needs two co-chairmen. Steve Shelton and Steve Peters were mentioned by the GK as nominees. 

At the end of the meeting, our various Directors will be in the back of the room to discuss their activities.

The Columbiettes have their Attraction Books available for sale.

Golf Package:

4 Rounds of golf at Porters Neck Country Club

The bid will close at the end of our Council meeting- Bid available for $425.

A 3rd degree will be held at St. Mary's K of C on 10/11/14.

 Program Reports

The various program directors were asked to provide their reports.

Membership:
James Laraia II reported that a Membership Drive is scheduled for September 6th and 7th. A 1st degree ceremony is scheduled for September 18th.

Culture of Life: 
Director Greg Decker said the NFL Football pool will be our fundraiser for Culture of Life activities again. We have plenty of time before the start of the NFL season to sell tickets. Anyone who sells 10 tickets will get one free. Tickets are $20 and are available from Greg Decker.
Prayer Vigil is
 scheduled for  8/22 on 16th St. near the Planned Parenthood Building. 

Special Programs

Catholic Radio: 
Greg Decker 
reported that work continues on the Ogden station. On October 17th, Ken Staples will be giving a talk at St. Mark. 

Community:

John Bolger thanked everyone that donated blood at the recent Blood Drive. John asked for help on the Mud Run to be held od October 18th at the Armory. 

LAMB: 
 
Pete Kotas reported that $16,965 was collected YTD as compared with $25,081 last year. Pete thanked all the knights involved.

 Fourth Degree: 

Bobby Phillips reported that a 4th degree will be held on November 15th in Durham.

New Business:

Jim Laraia proposed that the Budget that was proposed last meeting be approved. James Laraia II made a motion to approved the Budget as recommended by the Officers.Tim Niggle seconded the motion. A voice vote approved the budget. 

Good of the Order: 
Prayers for Bill McFarland,Roy Parker, Father Joe Vetter. Also pray for all the sick and deceased Knights and their families.
The meeting closed with a prayer led by Father Michael.

Good of the Order:

Cary Newman spoke to us about the International Seamen's Center in Wilmington. A service that provides comfort and ministry to foreign sailors while they are here in Wilmington.

  Jim Laraia invited the members to enjoy the refreshments provided and to talk to the various team leaders in the back of the room. Knights need to step up and volunteer for the various activities that are coming up. A prayer was led by our Chaplain, Father Pat.
